SIGN THE PETITION! When it is BAD for the Membership it is BAD for AEOE.
Thank you for visiting the AEOE Members Blog web site.
The AEOE Board has changed the AEOE Bylaws without member input! And the changes are not good for the Membership.
Excerpt: The (AEOE) Corporation shall have no members. Any action which would otherwise require approval by a majority of all members shall only require approval of the Board of Directors (“Board”). All rights which would otherwise vest in the members shall vest in the Board. February 2012

A fundamental right of membership is to know what their leaders are up to, particularly when it entails suggestions to dramatically change the organization
Inclusion is a good thing… Disenfranchising the membership is not!

You are NO LONGER A MEMBER OF AEOE! Yes, you read that correctly.
A rogue faction of the AEOE Board has decided that you are no longer a Member of AEOE. Your AEOE Membership or Life Membership has been arbitrarily downgraded to ‘associate’. Associate = non-member.
Here is the actual wording from the new AEOE Bylaws:
Article 12. Membership. The (AEOE) Corporation shall have no members. Any action which would otherwise require approval by a majority of all members shall only require approval of the Board of Directors (“Board”). All rights which would otherwise vest in the members shall vest in the Board. February 2012
“Places like Walmart have ‘associates’, democratic organizations, like AEOE, have Members.” S. Turner, Outdoor Education Teacher

So the $200 I paid for life membership two years ago is going to be absorbed and I get nothing in return? I don’t like that at all. I did that because I love being a member of AEOE and based on what I just read, sounds like I am getting screwed. Not Happy. I really like the people on the board and don’t understand what the motivation is for this change. If member input is not a part of the process, it feels underhanded. But again I don’t know the whole story. Please consider my input.
